[2] Country Mouse & City Mouse

At a small park in the country.

Once upon a time, there was a country mouse.

Country Mouse: Wow! Look at the flowers! I like this morning. It's very warm and the sky is really clear! I like this place so much!

City Mouse: Excuse me. Could you help me?

Country Mouse: Sure. What is it?

City Mouse: I think that I am lost. Could you tell me how to go to Mrs. Cindy Mouse's house? I'd like to find her house. She is my aunt.

Country Mouse: That's very easy. She is my neighbor. Will you follow me?

City Mouse: Thanks a lot. It is very kind of you.

Country Mouse: You're welcome. What do you think of this country?

City Mouse: I think that it looks so monotonous. No cars. No buses. It's so quiet. I am sorry, but I think that my city is much better than this place.

Country Mouse: I would like to go and see your city someday.

City Mouse: How far is my aunt's house from here? It's hard to walk because I am tired. I never walk when I go anywhere. I usually take my car or ride the bus. It is very convenient to use mass transportation.

Country Mouse: I think you should exercise. If you do, you will get healthier. I think that you are a little overweight now.

Let's hurry up. In thirty minutes, we can get there.

By the way, where do you live?

City Mouse: Me? I live in a city called San Francisco, California.

It's a very nice place. You can get a lot of food and you can enjoy a comfortable life there. Let me ask you something. How old are you?

Country Mouse: I am twenty years old now. How about you?

City Mouse: I am twenty, too. We are the same age.

Country Mouse: We can be good friends.

Why don't you be my good friend? What do you think?

City Mouse: Okay! I've never been here. So, I need a friend. In fact, this is the first time to come here. My aunt has lived here for a long time. She invited me a few days ago. I received a telegram from her.

Country Mouse: Oh! She is such a nice person!

Let's go. We've almost arrived.

City Mouse: Sounds good!

In front of Mrs. Cindy Mouse's house.

The doorbell is ringing.

Ring, ring, ring

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: Who is it?

Country Mouse: It's me, Country Mouse.

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: Okay! Come in!

Country Mouse: I have a friend. He is from San Francisco, California. Can he come in?

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: Sure. Bring him in.

Country Mouse: Let me introduce my friend to you. This is my friend, City Mouse!

She sees City mouse and then, she smiles.

City Mouse: Surprise! My aunt!

Long time no see. I am very happy to see you again.

You look very healthy. How are you doing?

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: Very good, thanks. You look so good. Are you happy?

How is your wife? Is she okay?

City Mouse: Sure. She is more beautiful than ever. And she is pregnant.

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: Congratulations, my dear! Come in and have a seat. Make yourself at home.

City Mouse: Okay. Please come and have a seat, Country Mouse!

Aunt! He came with me. I didn't know the directions to this house, but he showed me how to come here. Thanks, City Mouse!

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: Did you have dinner?

City Mouse: Not yet, Aunt. Actually, I am very hungry.

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: Okay! Wait a second. I will prepare dinner. What do you want to eat for dinner?

City Mouse: Do you have any hamburgers, pizza or chicken?

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: No. In the country, we can't get those things. Instead of those kinds of food, I will prepare a fresh vegetable salad for you.

City Mouse: Thanks, anyway. (He thinks that the country is poor.) Aunt! Why don't you move to a bigger house? Your house is too small and very hot. Though someone gives me a lot of money, I will never live in a house like this. I can't breathe. It's too small.

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: I know, but it is comfortable for me. So, don't worry about it.

Country Mouse: So, does your wife stay alone in your house?

City Mouse: Yes.

Country Mouse: Maybe, she will miss you so much.

City Mouse: I think so. Also, she wants to see my aunt.

Country Mouse: How did you meet her?

City Mouse: She was my ideal woman. I fell in love with her when saw her for the first time. We met at the social club. We talked about many things. We danced together. Aunt! Can you remember my wedding?

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: Sure. How can I forget it?

City Mouse: You'd better marry someone.

Country Mouse: I'd like to marry, but many mice go to the big City.

City Mouse: Why don't you move to the big City?

Country Mouse: I like the beautiful scenery of the country. I am satisfied with this place. So, I don't want to move to another place. My house is very cozy.

City Mouse: I see. If you change your mind, call me anytime. I will help you. Anyway, Aunt, could you come to my house this coming Sunday?

City Mouse: Could you come to my house, too. Country Mouse?

I'd like to show you both my beautiful house. Please come and stay with me.

Country Mouse: Okay! Thanks!

A few days later, Mrs. Cindy Mouse and Country Mouse go to San Francisco, California to see City Mouse.

In front of City Mouse's house Ring, ring...

City Mouse: Please come in!

How are you? This is my wife, Cathy.

Cathy, this is my friend, City Mouse and as you know, this is my aunt.

Cathy: Nice to meet you.

Country Mouse: Nice to meet you, too.

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: You are more beautiful than ever. I'm very happy to see you again.

Country Mouse: Your house is so big. Wow! I can't believe this! It looks like a palace.

City Mouse: Make yourself at home. Do you like it?

Country Mouse: Yes. I like it. It is very neat.

City Mouse: I prepared a lot of delicious food with my wife.

Honey! Please bring some food here.

Cathy: Yes. Wait a second.

City Mouse: Help yourself. There are hamburgers, pizza and chicken.

Country Mouse: Oh, thanks but I've never eaten food like this before!

It's really yummy! Yum, yum.

City Mouse: Do you like it? Help yourself!

Country Mouse: By the way, what's this sound?

City Mouse: Shh...The host and hostess of this house has come. They are human beings. The hostess is really awful. You have to hide well in my house. Fortunately, they didn't find my house. It's a safe place to live. So, don't worry about it, my friend.

Country Mouse: But, I am scared. In the country, there are no people.

We don't have to worry about people.

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: What is this sound?

Mrs. Cindy Mouse: What is this sound?

They heard something. Meow. Meow...

Hostess: Ha! Ha! Ha! I hate you. Mice! I will kill every mouse in my house! So, I bought a nice cat today. Kitty! Go and catch them, now! And if you catch them well, I will give you some fresh fish, right?

Kitty: Meow... Meow...

Hostess: Go! Hurry up!

The cat runs here and there.

Country Mouse: We have to run away from here. We don't have enough time.

Cathy: Help me!

Everyone: What happened?

Country Mouse: The cat is chasing your wife.

Cathy: I got you.

City Mouse: Oh! Honey! No.

Country Mouse: It's too late.

The cat ate Cathy Mouse.

The City Mouse cried.

City Mouse: Oh, no! My dear. Our baby! Oh, no!

Country Mouse: You have to run away from here. Your wife doesn't want you to die too. Maybe her last wish is for you to live happily. You have to live for your wife. Hurry up and let's run!

City Mouse: How can I live without her?

Country Mouse: You should overcome this terrible situation. You can do it.

They went back to Country Mouse's House.

City Mouse: I am so sorry that I laughed at your country. I complained about your country so much. Please forgive me.

Country Mouse: What are friends for? I know the good surroundings you live in. I think that you are OK.

City Mouse: The country is monotonous, but it is peaceful. I think that this is heaven. Why didn't I realize that? I was so stupid.

Country Mouse: But you learned many things. A comfortable life is good for us, but it is useless. The most important thing in life is to live without worries. No human beings, no cats; you can live here safely, forever. You don't have to worry about anything. My friend, could you live with me?

City Mouse: Thanks my friend.

I will not show off anymore.

I should respect others more.
